SKorea court convicts stem cell scientist: Yonhap

SEOUL (AFP) - A South Korean court Monday found disgraced stem cell scientist Hwang Woo-Suk guilty of embezzlement, and said he knew that data in his team's scientific papers had been manipulated.

The court was passing judgement after a trial lasting more than three years on Hwang, whose claims of a breakthrough shook the international scientific community until his research was found to have been faked.

The court found Hwang not guilty on a separate charge of defrauding people who contributed funds to his research, said an AFP reporter in the court.

The judges had not yet announced a sentence.
