Immigrants From India, Pakistan Face U.S. Prostate, Breast Cancer Risks 55 minutes ago
A team of
researchers at West Virginia University has shown that U.S. immigrants from
India and Pakistan take on the habits of their adopted country, increasing
their risks of prostate cancer among male immigrants and breast cancer among
females.

Dr. Judith Dempster, DNSc, FNP,
FAANP has announced her retirement from the American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners (AANP) following 12 years of service as the first executive
director of the organization. During her tenure that began in 1996, Dr.
Dempster has worked to position AANP as the largest and only full-service
national professional membership organization for NPs of all specialties.
Also the executive director of the AANP Foundation, she will remain in that
role through 2009.

convention culminated in John McCain's acceptance of his party's nomination,
ending a four-day effort to convince the American public that his Presidency
is something other than a third Bush term and that he is still the maverick
who ran for President in 2000, according to Eugene Hedlund and John K. Addis
of TruthandHope.org PAC. Hedlund and Addis say Senator McCain is out of step
with mainstream America, for while the nation has cried out for change,
voicing disapproval of the Bush Administration in ever-increasing numbers,
McCain has instead supported President Bush to a greater degree each passing
year.

A federal grand jury in the District of Columbia returned a superseding indictment today against a civilian contractor for allegedly paying bribes to Army contracting officials at Camp Arifjan, an Army base in Kuwait, and for committing honest services fraud in connection with the same conduct, Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew Friedrich of the Criminal Division announced.

Michigan Energy Company Fights Drilling Ruling Thu Sep 4, 5:24 PM ET
A small Michigan energy company today sought to intervene in a lawsuit filed by environmental groups that resulted in a court ruling barring the company from drilling a well to identify new sources of energy. Savoy Energy, L.P. of Traverse City, Michigan filed its motion as well as a protective notice of appeal with a federal district court in Detroit. Savoy seeks to join in the case alongside the U.S. Department of Justice, which is defending the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), to ensure that all factual and legal arguments that can be made to reverse the district court ruling will be made. The case involves a proposed exploratory well on federal lands to reach state and federal leases beneath state lands some 140 miles north of Lansing, Michigan. The appeal will be heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Ohio.

The 2008 Republican
National Convention today announced the full program of events for Thursday,
Sept. 4. The evening's program will feature John McCain's speech accepting the
Republican Party's nomination for the presidency. Among the other speakers
participating in this evening's program are Gov. Tim Pawlenty (Minn.), former
Gov. Tom Ridge (Penn.), U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Mrs. Cindy McCain.
The speakers' remarks will reflect the convention's overall theme, "Country
First," and the theme for Thursday's events, which is "peace."
